METROPOLITAN POLICE, SOUTHERN DISTRICT.

RECORD OF INTERVIEW.

BEGIN TRANSCRIPT.

DSI JOHNS: This is a recording of an interview with Jeremy Staunton at 6 pm, Tuesday, 12th of June 2021. Present are DSI Miles Johns, along with DS Ken Smiley. Now, Mr Staunton, we’ll begin with your date of birth, your address and occupation.

JEREMY: My name is Jeremy Thomas Staunton. I was born on 17th of April 1999. I live with my mum on 13 Calloway Street in Bexley. I am a pizza delivery man.

DSI JOHNS: Ok. Mr Staunton, could you tell me where you were on the night of the 9th of June 2021?

JEREMY: I finished work around 9 pm. Then Tom, my mate at work, and I went to a pub on Wheeler Street.

DSI JOHNS: How long did you stay in the pub?

JEREMY: An hour or so.

DSI JOHNS: Where did you go after that?

JEREMY: Tom and I went to visit Mrs Lavalier at Caulfield Street.

DSI JOHNS: What was the purpose of the meeting Mrs Lavalier?

JEREMY:. We were there to kill her, which we did. Tom held her down and I strangled her.

DSI JOHNS: Sorry? I mean … (inaudible) Did you say you killed Mrs Lavalier?

JEREMY:. Yeah. Tom and I did, that is. Isn’t that why you want me here?

(Inaudible)

DSI JOHN: You intend to confess now, to the killing?

JEREMY: Yeah. And about Giles Botnitch and Stanley Amis, too.

DSI JOHN: Wait a minute, you killed them too?

JEREMY: Yeah. Again, with Tom.

DSI JOHN: Well … then …

(inaudible)

JEREMY: You don’t recognise me do you DSI Johns?

DSI JOHNS: No.

JEREMY: You live on Fleeter Street, right? That nice house with a little stone arch in the front.

DSI JOHNS: Uh …

JEREMY: Well, I’ve brought pizzas to your house, I don’t know, fifty times maybe. It’s always the same order, One Large Super Supreme, Garlic Bread and a bottle of Pepsi.

DSI JOHNS: Look …

JEREMY: You live with your pretty wife, Jan, I think her name is, and two daughters Elaine and Kelly. Am I right? You’ve got to be one of our most steady customers. Same order, at the same time every week, except maybe around holidays.

DSI JOHNS: Where is your friend Tom? Where is he?

(anging and scraping noise? otherwise inaudible.)

JEREMY: (voice sounds strained) And every Tuesday at 6:30, to the minute. I reckon that’s the only time of the day when the whole family can get together. The only time of the week when you’re all together at the house and you eat a cheap pizza. Sad really.

DSI JOHNS: (screaming. heavy breathing.) Where is Tom?
