Vera and her older brother Kieth had always been close. Their father built them a treehouse in the backwoods coz they caused so much commotion in their home that they ended up breaking a thing or two.

Growing up their interests went on different paths. Vera leaned on cheerleading while Kieth dabbled on the paranormal. The boy enjoyed the hobby so much that he'd often go to scary places with fellow enthusiasts to investigate.

In moments where she longed for his company, Vera would visit their forth that held memories in every crevice of its aged walls. Even if its only in pictures that were taped or the scribbles that occupied the remaining space, the girl cherished them as if they were made in the present.

Kieth's passion showed mostly in the sanctuary of his room. Nothing really alarmed Vera until the day that her brother announced that he was going to Romania to visit the Baciu forest as his final trip before going to college.

A quick search told the girl all about the place and the hauntings that have occured. She tried to protest but the boy only waved and laughed her off and after a month, Kieth was off to a place where Vera couldn't follow.

Messages were sent back and forth between the siblings and before she knew it, Kieth was back with his usual happy self full of stories to be shared.

Everything had been good with the pair watching what Kieth considered as "evidence" from his adventure. Vera listened with interest and smiled at the radiating joy that her brother felt.

As with all things, nothing lasted. Vera noticed the changes in Kieth a week after his arrival. His once vibrant eyes now looked dull, bags evident under them. Sometimes Vera would catch them throwing daggers at her that she had no choice but to look away.

Silence replaced his talkative tongue that would often result in him completely ignoring his sister. Vera told their parents about it and they made a promise to seek help for their son as they too had noticed his odd behavior.

To their surprise, Kieth just woke up one day as the boy that they knew. He was joking and spending time with the family again and Vera couldn't be more thankful. This transformation placed their parents at ease that when a business trip called for them, they answered immediately.

On their first night alone in the house, a knock came to Vera's door. Kieth's voice rang from behind, asking his sister if they could talk. Apologies came flooding out of the boy as they sat on the bed and before Vera could even give her forgiveness, hands were clapsed around her throat.

She saw the daggers in his eyes again as each second made the grip tighter, the pulsing pain screamed of a colossal anger.

As her life started to drain away, all Vera could think of was…

"He must've found her real body in the treehouse."
