It was September 23rd, 2155 when all the stars in the sky went out. Scientists worldwide struggled to explain this phenomenon – some citing light pollution, others a mass meteorological event.

In an effort to calm down global fears a probe was sent forth to the last know location of earth’s closest star: Proxima Centauri. Space travel had advanced considerably since the past and the trip would take only around 4 years.

The next day, however, the stars came back. Relief flooded across the planet as our intellectuals struggled to explain this phenomenon. This event repeated itself every few days and, over time, people grew used to the process and demands for answers dwindled as people came to accept it as a part of life.

Eventually, scientists forgot about the probe they sent and when it finally beamed its data back to earth, all hell broke loose. Soil samples gathered were not of mineral composition, but biological tissue. Specifically occular tissue.

They weren’t our stars. They were eyes. Billions of them. Staring at us.

And they blinked.
