It was a dark and stormy night, and the wind howled like a wolf staring at the moon. The rain pittered and pattered on the porch’s roof as Bryce stared into the sky.

“BOO!”

“Jesus Christmas, Todd, you scared me.”

Bryce playfully punched Todd in the arm before they shared a kiss.

“What is it about this shitty weather that you love so much. I swear, every time it rains, you stand out here and forget everyone else, including me.”

Bryce rolled his eyes and said, “stop being so dramatic. Besides, you know I find the rain calming and lightning fascinating.”

“Even more calming and fascinating than—,” Todd whispered something into his ear, and Bryce’s face was immediately flush with embarrassment.

“You’re so nasty,” Bryce said while biting his lower lip. He pulled Todd in for another kiss, and they breathed heavily while their tongues tangled.

Todd pulled away and stared deeply into Bryce’s eyes, his erection growing harder by the nanosecond. “How about we go inside?” he said.

Bryce nodded and slapped Todd’s butt as he turned around to open the front door. “I hope you’re ready to calm m—”

Crack-a-lack-a

Bryce and Todd turned around, hoping to catch erratic lines of blinding light drawn into the sky, but what they saw was far more confusing.

“What the hell is that?” they said simultaneously.

They saw lighting, but it wasn’t in the shape of anything they’d seen before.

“It looks like a leg,” Bryce said confusingly, trying to make sense of what they were looking at.

Crack-a-lack-a….. kaBOOM!….. “AAAAAAAAGGGGGGGHHHHHHHH!”

Todd and Bryce gasped in horror as they watched a foot made of lighting come down on the Anderson’s house down the road and flatten it to the ground, sending a shockwave that caused all the car alarms on the quiet suburban block to go off.

Their neighbors made their way onto the street to see the commotion.

Crack-a-lack-a….. kaBOOM!

Everyone started screaming as another house and family were reduced to rubble.

“We need to get out of here now,” yelled Bryce.

They ran to their car, but the engine wouldn’t start, and they saw that everyone else had the same issue.

Crack-a-lack-a….. kaBOOM!

The otherworldly feet picked up their stride, leaving nothing but death and destruction in their wake.

Todd and Bryce started running from the carnage, and their neighbors joined them.

Crack-a-lack-a….. kaBOOM!

It was gaining on everyone, determined to squash them like skittering cockroaches.

Crack-a-lack-a….. kaBOOM!

Screams filled the night air.

Crack-a-lack-a….. kaBOOM!

Crack-a-lack-a….. kaBOOM!

Crack-a-lack-a.

.

Everyone stopped running. They turned around to survey the damage. The ground was littered with glass, wood, sheetrock, bones, organs, and blood.

.

“I think it’s finally over. We’re safe now,” Bryce said as he and Todd hugged each other tightly.

“I hope so,” Todd replied while wiping tears from his eyes.

.

There was a collective sigh, and they rejoiced because they had survived a freak thunderstorm.

.

KABOOOOOM!

SPLAT!

Or so they thought.
