I think I died : Scary Stories – Short Horror Story

I was never a well man, not since I was a child anyway. I decided to climb the water tower, my friends tried to warn me, but I knew better, I was invincible back them. I barely got halfway before I fell and after two steel plates in my head and a three-month coma I woke to a life of constant pain. They said I wouldn’t last a year, it’s now 18 years later and I’m still alive, at least I thought I was until two nights ago. I was lying in bed and couldn’t sleep. I got this weird feeling down my left arm, soon after I was unable to move, I was sure it was a stroke. It’s what I was waiting for all these years anyways, and to be honest with my way of life it was a relief. You could understand my surprise when I woke up the next morning, it had to have been a dream, right, that’s what I thought too.

I got up, done my usual routine, got dressed, had my breakfast, but when it was time to take my medication, it was gone. I thought I had been robbed and checked the whole house, nothing else was taken, all the doors and windows were all locked. The first thing I tried to do was ring my doctor, but his number was gone from my phone. When I finally found it online and rang him, he had no memory of me, well at least that’s what he said.

It was only after looking in the mirror I realized that the hideous scar that went from my ear to my temple was gone. Maybe it’s just one big hallucination I thought brought on by not enough oxygen in the brain. Eventually I decided to go for a walk, that’s when I began to see other differences like cars driving on the opposite side of the road and there is now a McDonalds where my butcher used to be, apparently there everywhere but I never even heard of them. When I got home, I tried to listen to music to help me relax, but couldn’t find Nirvana’s new album, then I found out Kurt was dead. I have locked myself in my room since, only going out for bare essentials and taking notes of all the differences. I am still not entirely sure what’s happening yet, but I think I died that night.
