You’re 47 years old, your spouse is 45, you’ve lived in a comfortable home with a comfortable job and comfortable life for about 23 years. The kids are grown and starting lives of their own. Your job isn’t the best but it matters, you make a difference even if it’s small. Your spouse doesn’t have to work, but together you have enough for bills, hobbies, retirement savings, emergency fund, the works. You’re happy, content. The doorbell rings one Saturday afternoon before you and your spouse are off to date night dinner. The man is dressed in an expensive looking suit, you see a nice car in your driveway as he introduces himself. He asks a few questions that seem odd, how long have you lived here, have you ever had any issues with the house, how is the neighborhood, etc. He then offers to buy the house, in cash, for $5 million dollars. The market value being around $200k, you laugh thinking it’s a joke, but his face says he’s dead serious. You and your spouse look into each other’s eyes… He looks back at the man and sees all the opportunities and things that $5 million dollars can buy. He can buy his dream car, dream house, help the kids get started in life, go on vacation, quit his job! Oh that would be the life, this is what everyone dreams of right?!? She turns and sees all the memories and happiness the old house has witnessed, protected. All the tears and laughter, dancing in the kitchen, singing to the children. Fights and holidays, repairing and repainting, dogs and cats and kids running every direction. Would she remember them the same if they sold their home??? They lock eyes again and see each other’s visions. They finally tell the man to come back tomorrow and they will give him their decision. When he arrives Sunday afternoon, the door is ajar, and there is silence in the house. Most of the blood is in the kitchen and it leads downstairs to the basement, right next to the back door. Easy clean up. He smiles. Chumps always fall for it…
