As luck would have it… – Short Horror Story

I left the doors and windows locked, but he didn’t care about that

I laid down for an afternoon nap

As luck would have it…

Happenstance, fate, hateful misfortune…

Rolling clouds that would cover the sun for a moment or two.

A sleepy neighborhood

A strange man, in a house he didn’t belong in, with a bag full of tools too cruel to describe

Me. Awake. Sudden panic.

Struggling on the bed. Kicking at the white comforter

Crying and screaming

Alone.

I heard children outside playing and laughing. They didn’t know. They couldn’t know what kind of humans this world was capable of churning out…

Blood running slowly, pooling around the bunched up covers before sinking deep within

Struggle leaving my body

Flashes of pain, pleasure, happiness I once had known

His face was sharp, the knife sharper still

Goodbye to the bed, the blankets, the comfort and the safety

Goodbye to the sun

Goodbye to the laughter and innocence of children

I’m never coming back

My consciousness will melt away as quickly as this cushion absorbs my blood
