It’s been a little over a month since that unexpected phone call with Erika. I was hoping to be able to go home to Mexico City to try and catch up with Erika but the work on the site was so backed up that I didn’t have a free minute.

To compensate for not being able to go home as scheduled, they offered to give us a weekend off, with pay and a little extra for being on call. So when I found out what weekend I had, I decided to give Alejandra a call and see if she would be available. Erika and I didn’t really talk much after that fateful night, mainly because of the awkwardness between us, but we were and still are really good friends.

Erika knew what weekend I was supposed to come back to the city, so she called me the day before I was supposed to fly back home and asked if I wanted to go get some drinks when I got back that Saturday. I told her I was on-call that weekend unexpectedly but they had given me off the next weekend, but bad thing was, I had to remain in Puerto Vallarta on-call in case they needed me.

Erika: “Well, that sucks. I was hoping to meet up and get some drinks and hang out….”

Me: “Yeah, I know. I was hoping to come home and meet up with you too.”

Erika: “Do you have anything planned for next weekend or are you going to sit back and relax?”

Me: “As a matter of fact, I just got done making plans next Friday with a friend.”

I wish secretly it was her I was making plans with instead of or maybe even with Alejandra but this time in person and not over the phone.

Erika: “You don’t mean my phone buddy, Alejandra do you?”
