When I awoke, I was still naked, sprawled in the pool of sunlight across my bed. On the chair where Daddy had draped his clothes was a box. I hadn’t seen it in the dark when he’d left last night. Reminded me, I needed to get new glasses.

I rolled to the edge of the bed and swung my legs over, sitting up. I stood, stepped to the window admitting a stream of sunlight.
