It was a fall Saturday morning that started like many others. Life had taken a turn that left me from being a free man in his late forties to one often in charge a a 7 year old grandchild. After the usual of making breakfast and getting dressed for the day brushing our teeth and the making of two braids . I was begged to do something fun . I had a reputation as a fun grandpa to keep so we headed to the park . I sat on the bench taking in the fall foliage and scanning the park. As usual it was full of kids and moms gathered in groups chatting . One imagines that this is like social hour for them . There was on mom that caught my eye . She was reasonable tall her blond hair was neatly up and she was wearing black tights and a pink long sleeve with a vest over top. She wasn’t flashy or loud or doing anything to draw attention to herself but yet I found my eyes naturally drawn to her. I would scan to keep my granddaughters location. I was casual and did not believe I was obvious in my attention the the woman who had my eye . Eventually I was summoned for help at the zip line as my granddaughter repeatedly got back in line I found my self in conversation with the woman who had caught my eye. Conversation was easy and casual she had a subtle beauty she wore evidence of her motherhood in her thighs as sand tummy but wore them well. She had a cool confidence and a sweet demeanor. I wouldn’t call any part of our conversation flirtatious. After a time I headed back to the bench to observe and tend to some work emails. I was absorbed in an email when a soft scent of perfume alerted me I was not alone . She looked in my eyes and adjusted her blond hair speaking softly she asked . Do you have full time custody of her? Oh I chuckled you are sweet , I’m grandpa. She smiled I know but I didn’t what to ask when you got off?
Oh . Is it that obvious I haven’t gotten off in while ? I smile not sure how my joke will be received. But the hand on my thigh told me that she took it as honest as it was. I smiled her mom bets off work at 4 . Oh she said that is interesting my kids father picks them up at 5. Do you have any plans tonight? Her hand slide further over to see if I was showing interest. The gleam in her eyes was perfectly in time with an involuntary twitch .
