When I was in grad college the university often recruited student to participate in numerous studies. Usually tracking what we ate, or doing blood tests after workouts…it ranged a lot but all of them paid a little something and we got credit. But compared to all the others, the one I participated on for sexual health was by far the weirdest. I’ll save some of the more intimate details for another day, but here are the highlights:

– The first phase was meant to establish baselines. I was told to stop all sexual activity and only ejaculate during study sessions. This ranged from just analyzing my semen to having to ejaculate during an MRI and an ultrasound.

– The second phase involved a partner. I was not required to limit sexual activity, but was asked to perform numerous sexual tasks with a partner, again for MRI and ultrasound.I guess looking back it was sort of fun (and certainly neat to see the imaging), but it was super weird in the moment.
