My packed bags were all around me. I looked at them with a melancholy stare. I was glad to be going home. But I was gonna miss camp. I carried them out of the cabin to where the bus and all the other girls were waiting.

Layla had made love to me one last time the night before. I was still shaking from it. But when I went outside I couldn’t see her anywhere.

I found my friends, Emma, Katie, and Beth. I hugged all of them and told them how much I’d miss them and what not. We all exchanged phone numbers and told each other to keep in touch. All around me I saw girls hugging each other and following the same old end of camp routine. But with everything I saw around me I couldn’t see the one person I was gonna miss the most.

I lowered my head, thinking maybe she’s already left. Or maybe she didn’t want to say goodbye I didn’t know. Then I felt a tap on my shoulder.

I turned around to see Layla. Damn me and my irrational thoughts.

“You didn’t think you were gonna get away without saying goodbye did you?” My eyes filled with tears. I threw myself at her and gave her a big hug.

“I’m gonna miss you so much.” I said. Layla smiled sweetly as at all times.

“I’ll miss you too sweetheart.” I looked up at her and she patted me on my head, “you made my summer amazing Bee.” I looked at her. I wanted to tell her how I felt, how much I adored and admired her. But there were so many people around and I didn’t want them to know. My heart was beating rapidly and then, without warning Layla’s lips were touching mine.

She was kissing me, passionately, in front of all the girls. I accepted it and returned with just as much passion. When we released she smiled at me with tears in her eyes. She took a piece of paper with her number on it out of her pocket and slipped it in my shirt.

“Keep in touch,” she said, “I know I’ll be seeing you again.” She kissed me once more on my head then turned to walk away.

With a gigantic unapologetic smile on my face, I turned back toward the crowd of girls all with their mouths wide open in shock. I looked at them and shrugged my shoulders. Picking up my bags and boarding the bus, happy as can be.
