Having been raised in among affluence, Elle was accustomed to being doted on. Her life was one of privilege, though she wasn’t haughty like many other women of her status. She wasn’t particularly elegant, either, much to her family’s chagrin. Having just turned 22, her family was beginning to worry that she would not discover a proper suitor. A woman of her class, it was expected that she would marry a man of equal status- preferably a son of a member of the high Court. If she didn’t marry soon, she risked her family’s reputation as well as her own. Her more graceful twin sister, Clara, had already married.

It wasn’t a matter of appearance, as Elle was gorgeous, with long auburn hair, and pale blue doe-eyes that could melt any man’s heart. But Elle lacked concern for social graces. She had a strong will and unbreakable spirit, traits only celebrated when held by men. Attempts at courtship have all ended in disaster, Elle usually adamently refusing to see the potential suitor again, or the suitor apologetically explaining to Elle’s family that while she is gorgeous, she is just frankly too much to handle.

Elle wouldn’t have been the least bit concerned if it weren’t for her awareness that she was bringing shame to her family. In one last attempt to discover a husband, she is set up with a prince from a neighboring kingdom. Elle agrees to meet him, promising she would try to be pleasing and demure.

Prince Castian, upon seeing Elle for the first time, is struck by her captivating beauty. While a believer in tradition, he finds most women he had courted rather dull. After a few brief weeks of courting, he is pleasantly surprised to find that Elle is anything but. Her wit, a turn off to many others, impresses the progressive Prince. He knows, though, any wife of his must gain the approval of his family and unfortunately Elle, in her current state, wouldn’t make the cut.

He is determined to mold her into a eligible match without dimming her spirit, lest she bolt away or discover hin repulsive. Can he manage this feat?
