On September 21, 2026, he came into the world.

At first, the world welcomed him. They thought he was a miracle, a man destined to lead the world after it was ravaged by COVID-19. Created by combining DNA from some of the world’s best scientists, athletes, politicians and artists, he was the epitome of perfection. He was incredibly handsome too. Charismatic, intelligent, creative…the list of adjectives went on and on.

He learned fast, about the pandemic that claimed thousands of lives. He talked to the world’s top diplomats to gain their insights and perspectives. He led the best life the world had to offer, staying in a luxury mansion built on a remote island, all his whims and fancies delivered to his doorstep.

The world’s first perfect man, nicknamed ‘David’ by the Internet, soon mastered social media. Everyone loved him.

What had gone wrong then?

Perhaps it was when the President of Australia accepted a $250,000,000,000 bribe from the President of the United States in exchange for weapons and nuclear warfare, which he then used for his own nefarious purposes. The world was shocked when reporters uncovered and revealed the bribe. They condemned the bribe, saying it was a prime example of intercontinental corruption.

But no one was more furious than David himself.

On February 28, 2030, every member of the governments of both the United States and Australia and their families were found brutally murdered in their homes. Some were swinging from the ceiling with their entrails wrapped around their necks. Others were lying on the ground with their eyes and hearts ripped out as if by some savage beast. Written crudely on the wall of each house, with handwriting that resembled a typed letter, were the words, THEY DESERVED IT.

The world was shocked into silence. A televised message was broadcast later that day from David’s residence, and it ran all over social media. “Be good,” said David, smiling underneath his perfectly tanned, smooth skin, “and nothing bad will happen to you.”

No one dared offend David after that. Crimes dropped more than 60%. But a month later, the Prime Minister of Canada was murdered in a similiar fashion in his residence. Followed by every important leader in every country, all on the same day.

Another message from David’s residence claimed they all had been naughty boys and girls, and he had punished them. Now, he had come to rule them as their rightful king.

People panicked. The defiant ones tried to rebel, but they were quickly squashed. Entire cities he didn’t like were bombed until they were nothing but dust. Thousands fled their homes, but they were no match for David’s watchful eye. Humanity declined to the hundreds. Only David’s most loyal supporters remained.

David has let me live, to tell his story. He says it is important. But I hate David. I’m terrified of him.

But I have no choice. No one can stop David. Even now I can feel his smile burning into my back…
