Everything changed once the Red Doors appeared around the world. All adults over the age of 40 suddenly died, and children under the age of 16 stop aging. Women became infertile and anyone within their first or second trimesters miscarriage. Within two weeks the world economy completely collapsed and the borders that separated countries were no more. No one knew where the Red Doors came from, but it was clear that their appearance brought about change.

After six months the world was completely ruled by children and they only answered to her. I’ve only laid eyes on her once, and that violation cost me my right arm. She’s pure energy and the outlining of her body is shaped like an hourglass. She doesn’t have any defining characteristics and she only appears to watch over the children as they pass through the Red Door when the sun begins to set.

There are four major rules that are enforced. The first rule is: adults must work to clean up the pollution of the planet. The second rule is: only children are allowed to see her. The third rule is: all adults must be inside their homes by 4 p.m., and the 4th and final rule is to never harm the children. Violation of the first two rules will cost you a limb, but if either of the second two rules is broken, black long arms will extend from the Red Door, and drag you inside to never be heard from again. Tomorrow I plan to violate rule number three, so I can finally see for myself what’s on the other side of that Red Door.

I stand In the middle of the field as the alarm begins to sound, these alarms are meant to warn us that 4 p.m. is approaching. As all of the adults begin to move in the direction of their homes, some start to notice that I’m moving in the opposite direction. Excitement and tension fill the air because it’s been months since anyone has broken the last two rules. The clock strikes 4 p.m. and all the adults are inside their homes. I start to prepare myself for the unknown that is yet to come, I’m at peace with my decision and I plan on seeing this through to the end. The Red Door suddenly appears in front of me, and long black arms begin to stretch out, and slowly pull me into the abyss
