I’m a trucker, so obviously I’m out and about a lot. I’ve got to stop at rest stops, motels, you name it to get some sleep. I prefer rest stops because I’ve come accustomed the security of my own vehicle but I made a wrong turn somewhere and ended up having to stay at a motel on the outskirts of Montana. The motel I happened to find was strangely lavish, for a motel in its location at least.

It was already late when I checked in, dark at least, and I couldn’t get comfortable for the life of me. The motel was clean enough and the beds were fine but sleep just didn’t come easy. When it finally did I have to assume only about 10 minutes passed before I heard the smallest knock on my door.

It was almost inaudible, I still have no clue why it woke me up but I just knew someone was at my door. I looked over at the alarm clock on the nightstand and it read 4:13 am. Suddenly I felt sick to my stomach. Who the hell would be at my door at 4 in the morning? I considered staying in bed but my curiosity got the better of me. I grabbed my pocket knife from my nightstand and slowly creeped towards the door. It felt like the longest walk of my life, I could just feel something was wrong deep in my bones.

Ever so slowly I opened the door until an old man was in full view. He was dressed nicely in a brown suit with a paperboy cap on and he walked with a cane. This wasn’t necessarily the strangest thing so I opened the door fully. I asked what I could do for him and he just stared back at me with a blank, confused stare. I asked again if he needed help or anything but he just, looked at me.

I began to close the door when I saw something horrible. Something deep inside this man… twitched. I don’t know how else to describe it, it wasn’t like a visible convulsion or anything just something within that… entity’s being… twitched, pulsed. The man took a step forward and I didn’t know what to do I was frozen with fear.

Thank god the next door opened and the man quickly turned around and walked off. From next door a half dressed lady walked stealthily out of the room, still in the process of getting dressed. She walked the same way as the old man and for a moment I almost said something to her. But what the hell would I have said? Funnily I was still worried about looking like a creep. I closed my door, locked it, and put as much weight in front of it as I could find. Then I heard it. A whimpering attempt at a scream followed by tearing and cracking of what I can only assume was flesh and bone.

What would I have said?
