“Woah, check that out,” said Tyler.

I turned my head and looked at Tyler. He was pointing at something along the edge of the trail. I got a closer look and saw that it was one of those weird theater masks with a smile on its face. A red tear was painted under one of the eyes.

“Oh crap, that thing is creepy,” I said.

“What do you think it’s doing here?” asked Tyler.

“Maybe some mob was wearing them as a disguise to whack someone out here,” I said.

Tyler smirked and looked me in the eyes.

“I’m gonna put it on,” said Tyler.

“Dude, don’t put that thing on, it’s been sitting in the dirt,” I said.

Tyler waved his hand at me and picked it up. I winced as chunks of dirt came out of the mask. His enthusiasm as he put it on became stone cold silence. Without a word, he collapsed to the ground.

“Tyler!” I shouted.

I kneeled down and started shaking him. I could tell this wasn’t one of his usual bits; his body wouldn’t have collapsed like that. I pulled the mask off his face and jumped back a bit. He had bags under his eyes the color of charcoal. His eyes were blood red.

“Tyler, what happened to you?”

I was met with no response. Tyler’s pupils looked at me for a second before they looked back at the sky. His arms and legs began to twitch like he was making snow angels.

“Hang on dude, I’ll call for help,” I said.

I frantically reached into my pocket and grabbed my phone. As I tried to call the local Forest preserve rangers, I heard a faint whisper.

“It felt like I was in there for a million years,” said Tyler.

Before I could react, I felt an arm around my neck. I tried to pull Tyler’s arm off me, but he held onto me with an inhuman strength as he forced the mask onto me.

When I opened my eyes, all I could see was the mask in front of my vision. There was nothing else besides darkness. I tried to move my body, but was met with resistance on all sides. My body parts were locked in place.

I tried to move my head, but couldn’t move it more than a centimeter. I felt like I was entrapped in a rock tomb that perfectly encompassed my body. It was suffocating. I tried to scream, but I couldn’t open my mouth.

I was in Hell. All I could do was stare at that mask as I was stuck in my claustrophobia inducing tomb for an eternity.
