AITA for hanging up on my absent friend’s 3AM phonecall? : Scary Stories – Short Horror Story

My (23F) friend (25F), let’s call her Mia, called me in the ass crack of dawn last week for absolutely no good reason, so I hung up on her.

Now she’s being petty and ignoring me.

For context, Mia is alway absent. This annoys me a lot because I feel like I’m always at her beck and call, and she doesn’t even make the slightest effort to return the favour. Sometimes, she would get back to me hours (or days) after my initial text, and by that time, the moment had already passed. It’s always responses like “soooo sorry i was asleep Iol” or “i got distracted my bad” or whatever recycled excuse she felt like using. I think up to this point, I’ve done a pretty good job at being there when she needed me. For example, she’d always had trouble sleeping (psycho ex trauma) so I set a different ringtone for her so she could call me whenever she wanted so I could keep her company til she fell asleep.

Well, about a week and a half ago, I got a promotion and my friend group, including Mia, decided that we would all go get wasted to celebrate. Anyway, as we were all making the plans in the groupchat, Mia was well… MIA. We tried to reach out to her for two more days before just letting her be.

Before you all say we were being bad friends, we really weren’t. This was just Mia being Mia. She isn’t as social and she didn’t really like the party scene.

Came Friday, we all went out without her and drank away our kidneys… can’t recall the majority of the night but I know that that was the best night I’ve had in months. I got home around 2:30 AM and went straight to bed because I was supposed to meet my parents on Saturday for lunch.

Well, at around 3:15 AM, I was awoken by a call from Mia. That loud cursed ringtone. I admit, I was pretty annoyed because my head was pounding and I may have still been a little mad at her for ignoring me all week. She didn’t say much, but I heard a lot of ruffling, hushed whispers –which my pounding head couldn’t make out to be honest–, and then she just suddenly screamed really loudly into my ear. It was a shitty thing to do but my head was spinning so I just hung up on her.

I texted her that morning to apologize for hanging up after I realized she might have had a nightmare or something but she ignored me. It’s now Thursday and I’m honestly just getting more upset that she hasn’t reached back out to me or any of our friends.

She’s ignoring me for not being there for her one time when she’s rarely ever there for me. AITA for hanging up?

Update: A body was reportedly found in her building this afternoon… I’m getting worried.
