A Toothy Smile – Short Horror Story

writing, getting on an infinite groove he felt he couldn’t end the story on. Before he knew it, the announcement blared a crusty old voice which said..

“The Brooklyn Library is closing in five minutes!”

“We are talking to you especially, Billy.” A quieter voice said, thinking they had turned off the speaker. An abrupt sound of stumbling to turn it off soon followed. The lights turned off to a full darkness to the point where nearly nothing could be seen.

Billy didn’t care, rather, it motivated him to stay and keep writing. He left the chair to hide: He ran near the bookshelves, slowly devolving into a prone position while the guards poorly surveyed the area.

“WHY ARE YOU DOING THIS BILLY?” A raspy, smoker esque voice bellowed.

Billy’s hair on the back of his neck stood up.

“Who are you?!!

“What you are running from..”

A toothy, gleaming smile appeared in the vivid darkness, almost as if it was floating. The smile ran closer to him as he tried to get further away. He got near the exit, seeing the double doors near. He panted, thinking he had lost the mysterious raspy voiced figure. Then a white gloved hand grappled his shoulder harder than a drill sergeants handshake, breaking his scapula. The crunching of his bones caused an adrenaline surge within him. He shrieked, grabbing the man’s white hand and pulled it off. He pulled out his phone, using the flashlight function as a means to get out.

“It’s not over Billy…”

The raspy voice echoed through the dark library, chuckling and threatening him as he ran to the doors, opening them. It was night, but outside he could see the parking lot and his car. He looked upon him, and there it was. His eyes were a deep emerald green, ones that were hypnotic. He was a white painted faced clown, a blue smiley with red dots on the ends adorned his upper lip as he showed his pearly whites, which began to become more sharp as his hunger increased. He was nearly bald, with smears of grey hairs on both sides adjacent to the wrinkles on his long forehead. He had a white shirt on with alternating red and blue polka dots decorated all over. He wore harlequin pants, each pant leg was perfectly separated into red and blue. Red was on the left of his leg, and blue was on the right.

“YOU CAN’T ESCAPE BILLY!!!” A terrifying, hungry voice said.

Billy was terrified. The clown tackled Billy as he looked at the source of the voice, directly at the monster.

“This is what happens when you overstay your welcome..”

Tendrils broke out of the arms of the clown, sticking Billy’s arms to the pavement. “I used to work here, you know, back 39 years ago. They kicked me out cause I stayed too long. I exterminate any lingerers. Now let’s say I’m their employee of the month, they just don’t know it yet.” The clown said, laughing with hunger.

“NO, NO, NO, NO!!!! Help, please, HE-“

The clowns mouth opened as long as half his face and his eyes became hungry as his mouth neared Billy’s throat. That’s where the cries for help ended, as his flesh melted to the acidic saliva of the “clown” and a crater appeared near the right side of his neck. His tendrils receded away from his arms. The monster swallowed now as Billy choked on his own blood and the clown began cramming his large strong hands into his chest cavity, excavating his ribs, grabbing his vascular pink lungs and tearing them out for a second snack. Billy’s eyes went cold as the clown began picking at the rest, enjoying his dinner.
